The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) is conducting forensic and technical analysis of the mobile phones of Pakistan cricketers Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan, sources said on Friday.

Sources said the investigation is focused mainly on the players’ financial dealings and suspected transactions. Their bank accounts and transactions made before and after the ongoing Test series against England are also being reviewed.

Investigators are examining the source and destination of funds if any suspicious transaction is identified, while alleged payments from companies, individuals or organisations are also under scrutiny, sources said.

Data recovered from the players’ mobile phones, including messages, contacts and other digital information, is being analysed in connection with the financial inquiry.

Sources said the investigation also covers alleged leaks of dressing-room information during Pakistan’s Test series against England. The players were questioned about their contacts and meetings during practice sessions and matches in England.

Imam and Rizwan appeared before the NCCIA at its Johar Town office in Lahore on Thursday and were questioned for around two hours. They later sought additional time to submit their responses.

The NCCIA has not officially confirmed any allegations against either player, sources said.

Earlier, the PCB had also sought an explanation from a selection committee member over the selection of Imam and Rizwan for Pakistan’s Test squads for tours of the West Indies and England.
