KARACHI: Mir Hussain, the father of Mir Raza, has sought the replacement of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) official nominated to the joint investigation team (JIT) investigating his son’s murder.

In a video statement, Mir Hussain expressed gratitude to the Sindh government for constituting the JIT. However, he said he learnt through media reports that Arslan Manzoor had been appointed as the NCCIA representative on the team.

While acknowledging Manzoor’s competence, Mir Hussain requested that another officer be nominated for the investigation.

He alleged that the officer had been handling the case for the past two months and had been pursuing the narrative that Mir Raza had died by suicide.

He emphasised the need to appoint an officer who had not previously been involved in the case, arguing that fresh investigators would help ensure an impartial probe.

Mir Hussain called for the inclusion of officials with no prior involvement in the matter to ensure that all aspects of the case were investigated independently.

Earlier, the Sindh government ordered the suspension of Dr Osama Sheikh, the medico-legal officer (MLO) who conducted Mir Raza Ali’s initial post-mortem examination, following observations made in a judicial commission’s report on his death.

The Sindh Home Department directed the relevant authorities to initiate departmental proceedings against Dr Osama. According to reports, the judicial commission described his conduct as immature and childish in its findings.

Following the commission’s recommendations, the Home Department also ordered an inquiry into the role of Special Secretary of Health Shehryar Gul Memon.

The department subsequently wrote to the chief secretary, calling for the implementation of the recommendations outlined in the judicial commission’s report on Mir Raza’s death.
