Two men accused of brutally murdering two brothers over a dispute of just Rs30 in Lahore's Raiwind area were killed in an alleged police encounter on Wednesday.

According to the Crime Control Department (CCD), a team in Chohang had taken the arrested suspects, Owais and Shahzad, to Raiwind for a raid on their identification when their accomplices ambushed the police party in an attempt to free them.

CCD officials said one of the attackers, identified as Tauqir, opened fire along with his accomplices. In the exchange of fire, Owais and Shahzad, who were already in custody, were killed.

Tauqir and other attackers managed to escape and are currently being traced by the police.

Police confirmed that the two slain suspects were responsible for the recent murder of brothers Wajid and Rashid. The brothers were subjected to brutal torture by fruit vendors following a heated argument over Rs30.

The victims attempted to settle the bill but only had Rs100 and larger currency notes, which led to a heated exchange.

One of the brothers died on the spot, while the other was rushed to hospital in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries, plunging the family into double tragedy.

A video of the attack, which went viral on social media, showed Wajid and Rashid lying wounded and profusely bleeding as the attackers struck them repeatedly with sticks, while onlookers remained passive.
