A man has been found hanging at his home in Orangi Town, Karachi, in an incident that police are investigating amid allegations from his family that he was murdered.
The deceased, 30-year-old Hamza, had entered into a love marriage only a few months earlier. His family says they are struggling to come to terms with his sudden death and are demanding a full and impartial investigation.
“We went and saw our son hanging,” a family member said while exclusively talking to Dialogue Pakistan. “We spoke to him at 10:30 at night and he was absolutely fine. Then, hours later, we were told he was dead.”
The family said preparations for a wedding reception scheduled for the 18th of the month were already underway, including clothing and invitations.
According to relatives, Hamza had married without their initial knowledge, though they later accepted the relationship and even welcomed his wife into their home during Eid.
“We had accepted her, and even her children,” the family said. “We only wanted him to be happy. We never thought his life would end like this so suddenly.”
However, the circumstances surrounding his death have raised serious questions for the family, who insist it was not suicide.
“There were marks on his body, cotton in his mouth, and his hands appeared to be tied,” a relative alleged. “The position of the body makes no sense. He could not have done this himself.”
They further alleged that his wife, identified as Dua, who reportedly worked as a police officer, may have used influence or connections to interfere with the case. These claims have not been independently verified.
The family also suggested there had been tensions involving the woman’s former husband, alleging prior disputes and complaints, though details remain unclear.
Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and say investigations are ongoing. One person has reportedly been taken into custody, but authorities have not yet confirmed further details.
The family, meanwhile, has appealed to senior government officials to ensure justice is served.
“Our world is finished,” a grieving relative said. “We only want justice for our son and a proper investigation into what really happened.”
