Saudi Arabia intercepts multiple drones in Riyadh, Madinah and other regions

Saudi Arabia’s air defences intercepted and destroyed missiles and drones, as hostilities involving Yemen’s Houthi movement continued.

The Coalition said its forces brought down two missiles and three drones targeting several regions, according to Saudi Gazette. 

Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki said a cruise missile was heading towards the western region and a ballistic missile towards the south. Three drones aimed at Riyadh, Makkah and Madinah were also intercepted.

Reuters reported that the coalition later announced that it had destroyed a drone over the oil-rich Eastern Region, followed by another launched towards the Southern Region. The coalition had also reported a drone interception in Madinah on Friday.

The incidents come amid intensified cross-border fighting between the Saudi-led coalition, which backs Yemen’s internationally recognised government, and the Houthis, who control the capital, Sanaa. Reuters said the Houthis denied carrying out an attack targeting Madinah.
