LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed authorities to ensure the provision of cold drinking water for the public across the province amid an ongoing severe heatwave.

She instructed district administrations to set up shaded areas at key intersections in all cities and to provide cold drinking water, fans, and air coolers at bus stands, wagon terminals, and railway stations for commuters.

The chief minister also ordered that visitors to government offices be given access to cold drinking water and other basic facilities during the extreme weather.

Urging caution, she advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and outdoor exposure during intense heat and hot winds, while stressing special care for women, children, and the elderly.

She further directed that schools hosting summer camps ensure the availability of cold water, fans, and cooling arrangements for students and teachers.

“Preventive measures and caution are the most effective ways to deal with extreme heat and high temperatures,” she said.

CM Maryam Nawaz also instructed traffic police to avoid unnecessary stopping of motorcyclists under direct sunlight, especially families and children, unless absolutely necessary.
