Ancient-style statues have been discovered during the restoration of Lea Market, one of Karachi's oldest marketplaces, prompting archaeological examination of the site.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said that evidence of archaeological significance was uncovered during the restoration work in the city's Old City Area.

According to the mayor, two ancient-style statues were recovered during the rehabilitation of Lea Market.

He said the recovered artifacts will be examined by archaeology experts to determine their age, authenticity, and historical significance.

Murtaza Wahab added that comprehensive documentation and records of the discoveries will be prepared as part of efforts to preserve the city's historical heritage.

He also confirmed that the recovered items have been secured and preserved while further assessments are carried out.

The mayor said the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is committed to protecting the city's historical heritage and that the artifacts will undergo scientific analysis.

He added that, following the discovery, any further excavation work at Lea Market is being conducted with extra caution to safeguard potential historical remains.
