ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday chaired a high-level meeting to review and coordinate relief operations for flood-hit areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, announcing immediate measures to accelerate the federal government’s response.

The prime minister also declared that he and the entire federal cabinet would donate one month’s salary to support the victims.

“This is not a time for politics, but a time for service,” he said, urging unity in alleviating the suffering of the people.

Shehbaz Sharif directed federal institutions to intensify both emergency relief and long-term rehabilitation efforts.

He announced a special relief package under his supervision to provide financial assistance to victims, assigning the Minister for Kashmir Affairs to oversee distribution of aid and rehabilitation operations.

Other ministers have been tasked with supervising the restoration of electricity, water, and road infrastructure in the affected regions.

Emphasising direct engagement, the prime minister ordered cabinet members to personally visit flood-hit areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Ministry of Power was instructed to conduct inspections and ensure swift restoration of energy services.

To facilitate rescue and relief work, the National Highway Authority (NHA) was directed to prioritise reopening blocked roads, with funds from other projects to be withheld until critical routes are cleared.
