ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed relevant authorities to ensure uninterrupted gas imports in light of the regional situation and prepare a comprehensive plan to manage gas demand during the upcoming winter.

Chairing a high-level meeting on winter gas management, the prime minister called for timely measures to address seasonal demand and instructed authorities to launch an effective public awareness campaign to support the plan.

Officials briefed the meeting that domestic consumers would receive priority in the allocation of locally produced gas, while imported RLNG would be mainly supplied to the power and industrial sectors.

The meeting was informed that the government also plans to encourage households to use alternative energy sources to ease pressure on domestic gas reserves.

Efforts are additionally being made to maintain a continuous supply from gas fields in the northern parts of the country.

Officials also discussed a proposal to facilitate bank financing for households seeking to purchase electricity-powered appliances for water and space heating.
