Mir Raza's business partner, employees summoned to record statements

The judicial commission investigating the Mir Raza Ali murder case has summoned his business partner, employees and other associates to record their statements as witnesses.

The notices were issued to the witnesses to appear before the commission on September 15. Among those summoned is Ahsan Anis Shamsi, who, according to information provided to the commission, held a 30 per cent stake in Ali’s eatery, Wafflix.

The restaurant’s manager, Sherry, and accountant Muhammad Umair Khan have also been called to appear. The commission has also issued notices to Asad Ali Butt and Usman Buzai, whose names have emerged in connection with Ali’s business.

An e-notice was sent to Hassan Tanoli, who lives in Australia, allowing him to give his statement through Zoom or another electronic means.

The commission directed its bailiff to coordinate with investigating officer DSP Siraj Lashari to serve the notices if the witnesses’ contact details were not available with the panel.

The latest move comes as the commission examines the circumstances surrounding the death of 25-year-old Ali and allegations of negligence in the handling of the case.

Mir Raza’s family has repeatedly questioned the police investigation and accused authorities of attempting to suppress the facts. Police had initially explored the possibility that Mir Raza had died by suicide.

His body was found in Gulistan-i-Jauhar in July, a day after he went missing, with a gunshot wound.
