KARACHI: Details have emerged regarding a violent altercation between two groups outside a café in Karachi's Defence Phase 6 area, reportedly triggered by an online taxi driver's alleged misbehaviour and verbal abuse towards a group of women.
A case has been registered at Darakhshan Police Station on the complaint of a citizen identified as Syed Muhammad Shirazi under relevant legal provisions relating to violence, physical assault, fighting and creating fear and panic in a public place.
According to the complainant's statement, he was sitting at a café in Bukhari Commercial, DHA Phase 6, with a friend on the night of November 1 when an Alto car stopped nearby.
The driver allegedly got into a heated argument with several women present outside the café and verbally abused them.
The complainant said he and his friend intervened and asked the driver not to create a disturbance in the area. Following the intervention, the driver left the scene.
However, the situation reportedly escalated when the same individual returned a short while later accompanied by five to six unidentified men.
According to the FIR, the group allegedly assaulted the complainant and his friend before fleeing the scene while issuing death threats.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those involved.
