The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday directed the Punjab Home Department to submit reports on the continued detention of three sisters of PTI founder Imran Khan, while also taking up a plea seeking medical treatment for one of them, Noreen Niazi.

Justice Abher Gul Khan set 2pm as the deadline for the reports while hearing petitions filed by Noreen's daughter, Sakeena, and Shahrez Khan, the son of Imran's other sister, Aleema Khan.

Aleema, Noreen and their sister Uzma Khan were detained under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960, ahead of a PTI protest march to Islamabad.

Aleema was taken into custody on September 20 for 30 days, while Noreen and Uzma were detained the following day for the same period. After the initial detention orders expired, the Punjab government informed the court that their detention had been extended for another 30 days.

During Monday's hearing, petitioners' counsel Rana Mudassar Umar challenged the extensions, arguing that the fresh detention orders were unlawful. He told the court that the Lahore deputy commissioner had issued the extension notification after the initial 30-day period ended.

The lawyer also said the detained women had not been allowed to meet their family members or legal representatives. He asked the court to declare the fresh detention orders illegal.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja also informed the court that Aleema's driver had been detained. He urged the judge to take a lenient view, saying the driver's family was distressed.

After hearing the arguments, Justice Khan sought the Home Department's reports and said he would examine the matter after reviewing them.
