The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Karachi tomorrow, warning of possible urban flooding due to the city’s fragile infrastructure.

According to PMD spokesperson Anjum Nazir, the ongoing monsoon system has intensified into a deep depression, which is one stage before evolving into a cyclone.

“The system is currently centered over Tharparkar, and wind speeds may reach 60 to 70 kilometers per hour,” he said.

He cautioned that the system is capable of generating intense downpours, with heavy showers expected in Karachi this afternoon and worsening conditions likely tomorrow as the system passes close to the city.

“Due to poor urban infrastructure, there is a high risk of waterlogging and flooding on major roads and in low-lying areas,” the spokesperson added.Citizens have been advised to stay indoors during heavy rains and avoid areas with weak structures.

The PMD further stated that over 100 millimeters of rain could fall across Karachi during the entire spell.
