Heavy rainfall forecast across Sindh, PMD warns of Urban flooding

Pakistan's Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across several districts of Sindh from today until 27 July, warning of a risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas.

According to the PMD, a low-pressure weather system is currently positioned over southern Rajasthan and adjoining areas, while strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are moving into southern and central parts of the country.

The department said intermittent rainfall is expected across Sindh through 27 July, including in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad, Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Khairpur and Dadu, among other districts.

The PMD warned that heavy rainfall could trigger urban flooding in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Hyderabad and surrounding areas. Strong winds and lightning may also damage vulnerable infrastructure.

For Karachi, the weather department forecast mostly cloudy, hot and humid conditions over the next three days.

Thunderstorms with rain are expected in the city's outskirts today, while light rain or drizzle is likely in other parts of Karachi. Similar drizzle is also possible over the following three days.

The maximum temperature in Karachi is expected to range between 33°C and 35°C today, rising to 34°C to 36°C on Sunday and Monday.
