FIA launches case against five FBR officers over cigarette theft worth Rs250m

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday registered a case against five Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officials and several employees of a private company over the alleged theft of 2,828 cigarette cartons from FBR warehouses in Swabi and Mardan.

The incident is estimated to have caused a loss of around Rs250 million.

The FIR was registered by the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle following a complaint filed by FIA Assistant Director Muhammad Safir Ahmed.

According to the FIR, the accused include five FBR officials and three representatives of a private company.

The nominated FBR officials include two inspectors, a driver, a security guard and a naib qasid, while two directors and a manager of the private company have also been named.

FIA officials said raids are underway to arrest the suspects named in the case.
