PTI founder’s release impossible despite workers’ sacrifices, says Faisal Kundi

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said PTI founder Imran Khan would have to face the consequences of his actions, maintaining that his release could only be secured through the courts and not through protests.

Speaking to the media, Kundi questioned the purpose of a march towards Islamabad, asking why such a protest was being organised if the federal authorities had not sentenced Imran Khan.

The governor said legal proceedings through the courts were the only way to seek Imran Khan’s release, ruling out protests as a means of securing his freedom.

Kundi stressed that Pakistan, particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, urgently needed peace, noting that funerals of security personnel and other martyrs were being held late at night. “We are carrying the coffins of martyrs while the provincial government is marching towards Islamabad,” he said.

He acknowledged that holding protests was a constitutional right but warned that planning a confrontation with authorities could lead to dangerous consequences.

The KP governor said the people of the province were already facing insecurity and called on the provincial government to focus on protecting citizens rather than organising marches towards Islamabad.

Kundi also claimed that he had never seen a PTI leader attend a military funeral. He further alleged that PTI had created a “shop of corruption” in the name of Imran Khan.

He said he did not want Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to be shut down through protests, particularly as the province was already dealing with terrorism.
