Imran Khan's cousin denied meeting with him at Adiala jail as sisters remain in detention

PTI founder Imran Khan's cousin Qasim Zaman was not allowed to meet the former prime minister at Adiala jail on Tuesday.

PTI lawyer Awais Younas Chaudhry said that Zaman reached the jail at about 2pm but was not permitted to see Imran Khan when he left after 4pm.

The development comes as Imran’s regular family visitors are currently unable to visit him. His sisters Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, who have frequently gone to Adiala jail to seek meetings with him, have been detained under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960.

The detentions were made ahead of the PTI’s planned protest on September 27.

Imran has remained in prison since 2023. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the jail authorities to facilitate meetings with his family, lawyers and other associates twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Chaudhry said he submits the names of party leaders and lawyers seeking meetings to the jail administration.

He said that if no relative had appeared at Adiala on Tuesday, the jail authorities could have told the IHC that the scheduled meeting did not happen because nobody from the family came. He said the authorities could have maintained that a meeting would otherwise have been permitted.
