Indian Tennis star Sania Mirza is expected to take part in the upcoming general elections in the neighbourly country, slated to take place in June.

Congress is considering fielding Mirza against All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi from the Hyderabad constituency.

Mirza's name was proposed by the former Indian captain and congress leader Mohammad Azharuddin in the meeting of the Congress Central Election Committee (CEC).

Mirza and Azharuddin have familial ties, as the former's sister married the latter's son in 2019.

The tennis maestro, who commenced her career at an early age garnered fame and stardom very quickly and did not express her interest in politics before.

However, Mirza has not issued any statement in this regard.
