KARACHI: Foreign wildlife and veterinary experts have arrived in Karachi to conduct medical examinations of African elephants Madhubala and Malka and assist authorities in improving their treatment.
A Sri Lankan team led by Dr Buddhika and Dr Amir Khalil, along with specialists from global animal welfare organisation Four Paws, will carry out detailed health assessments of the elephants.
The experts are expected to collect blood samples and conduct other medical tests, including X-rays, to assess their overall health.
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) said the specialists were invited to provide expert guidance and ensure better medical care for the elephants.
Madhubala has been receiving prolonged treatment for tuberculosis and has recently experienced deteriorating health. Safari Park officials said an infection in her feet has also affected her ability to walk.
She also collapsed inside her enclosure last month after suffering from severe weakness and low immunity, which officials linked to her extended tuberculosis treatment.
KMC spokesperson Daniyal Alishan Siyal said Madhubala’s medical reports had been shared with Sri Lankan wildlife health expert Dr Buddhika for evaluation.
Officials said all possible measures would be taken to improve Madhubala’s health and provide appropriate treatment to both elephants.
