Punjab Minister for Women Development Hina Parvez Butt has described the increase in crime reporting by women as a sign of growing confidence in the justice system , a claim that raises questions about how higher crime figures should be interpreted.

An increase in reported cases can indicate that more victims feel able to come forward, but it can also reflect a rise in incidents.

By itself, a rise in crime reporting does not necessarily establish that public trust in the justice system has increased.

She said the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, along with the police, prosecution services, Virtual Women Police Station and cybercrime agencies, was committed to ensuring justice, protection and a dignified life for women.

She added that strengthening mechanisms for reporting and addressing crimes against women remained essential to improving their access to justice and protection.
