Bahrain and Kuwait quietly carried out airstrikes inside Iran earlier this month, marking their first known direct military action against Tehran, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

According to the report, the strikes targeted facilities used to store drones and missiles, as well as other military sites.

The report said the United Arab Emirates also played a role by providing intelligence on potential targets and offering defensive air support, highlighting increased military coordination among Gulf states.

It added that Iran had focused its retaliatory attacks in recent weeks on Bahrain and Kuwait, both of which host US military bases. The two countries reportedly decided to respond rather than continue absorbing the attacks.

Regional tensions have risen sharply since US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 that the ceasefire outlined in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding was no longer in effect.

Since then, the United States and Iran have exchanged strikes, with Washington targeting sites inside Iran and Tehran claiming attacks on US military facilities and equipment across several countries in the region.
