Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been fined 20 per cent of his match-fee for breaching the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of Conduct during Sunday’s ODI tri-series match against England.
Rauf breached Level 1 of the code after appealing for a wide from the non-striker’s end in the 46th over, according to an ICC media release issued on Wednesday.
When the appeal was turned down, he argued with England all-rounder Will Jacks. The ICC said Rauf continued arguing despite a warning from on-field umpire Sharfuddoula and also raised his bat in frustration.
The pacer was found to have breached Article 2.20 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to “displaying conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game”. He was also handed one demerit point.
It was Rauf’s third offence within 24 months, taking his total to five demerit points.
Rauf accepted the charge and the sanctions proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, meaning no formal hearing was required, the ICC said. Despite his disciplinary breach, Rauf contributed to Pakistan’s thrilling one-wicket victory, scoring seven off 19 balls. Shadab Khan’s century also played a key role in the win.
Meanwhile, England were fined 15 per cent of their match-fee for maintaining a slow over rate, having fallen three overs short of the required rate within the allotted time.
Captain Harry Brook accepted the offence and the proposed sanction, the ICC said.
