Pakistan has urged Iran and the United States to honor their commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and resume negotiations, warning that further escalation could threaten regional and international peace.
Addressing a United Nations Security Council briefing on Iran’s nuclear program, Pakistan’s Acting Permanent Representative, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, said the situation had deteriorated amid continued hostilities and divisions within the council.
He stressed that outstanding concerns over Iran’s nuclear commitments should be addressed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), without politicization, and urged that the watchdog be allowed to carry out its technical mandate independently.
The Pakistani envoy described the Islamabad MoU, signed in June, as evidence that diplomatic progress remained possible despite persistent mistrust and regional tensions.
He also acknowledged the support of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt and China for efforts to promote de-escalation and stability.
