Adil Zaman, an absonder in the murder case of television anchorperson Mureed Abbas, has been arrested after remaining at large for six years.

According to details, Zaman was taken into custody at Peshawar airport upon his return from Dubai. He was later shifted to Karachi and handed over to the Darakhshan police.

The additional district and sessions judge (South) sent Adil Zaman to prison on judicial remand until November 9. The court also directed the investigation officer to submit a supplementary charge sheet in the case.

Mureed Abbas and Khizar Hayat were shot dead on July 9, 2019, in the Khayaban-i-Bukhari area of Defence, Karachi. The prime accused in the case, Atif Zaman, has been sentenced to death.

Mureed Abbas worked as an anchorperson at Bol News. Police initially described the shooting as a “personal dispute”. Abbas was killed in the attack, while Hayat sustained several bullet wounds.

Police said that Hayat was taken to a private hospital, where he later died from his injuries. In October 2019, the case was moved from an anti-terrorism court to a sessions court after the former ruled that the offence did not fall within its jurisdiction.
