Instead of celebrating their Asia Cup victory, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has turned the spotlight on itself with a childish meltdown, refusing to accept the trophy from ACC President Mohsin Naqvi and now absurdly accusing him of “taking it away to his hotel.”

In a bizarre display of mixing politics with sport, the Indian team not only declined to shake hands with Pakistani commentators but also refused to let Naqvi, a Pakistani national and the Asian Cricket Council chief, hand over the trophy.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia accused Naqvi of being “unsportsmanlike,” ignoring the fact that it was the Indian side that violated the spirit of cricket. “We have decided not to take the #AsiaCup2025 trophy from the ACC chairman… but that does not mean the gentleman will take away the trophy and medals with him,” Saikia complained, adding that India would register a “serious protest” at the upcoming ICC conference in Dubai.

According to reports, Mohsin Naqvi stood firm and did not allow India to dictate terms, leaving the team empty-handed. As a result, the closing ceremony was delayed, with Pakistani players receiving their medals while the Indian team sulked off stage.

Event host Simon Doull also confirmed that the Indian team had flatly refused to collect the trophy, forcing the ACC to send it off the field.

In the Asia Cup final, India defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets after chasing 146 runs yet despite winning the match, it is India’s off-field antics that have become the real talking point.
