Youth dies of alleged negligence at private hospital in Karachi, family stages protest

KARACHI: A 25-year-old man died due to alleged negligence at a private hospital in Soldier Bazaar, Karachi, prompting his family to stage a protest outside the facility.

According to the deceased’s relatives, they had brought him to Fatimiyah Hospital after he complained of a mild fever. The family claimed that he was in a stable condition when they brought him to the hospital.

The relatives said the patient’s blood pressure was recorded at 160, while his blood sugar level was 50 upon arrival.

They alleged that hospital staff spent around one and a half hours moving from one place to another without providing proper treatment.

According to the family, the patient was brought to the hospital at around 1pm, but no treatment was administered until approximately 2:30pm. They claimed that after an injection was eventually administered, his condition began to deteriorate.

The family said they were informed shortly afterwards that the patient could not be saved.

The relatives further alleged that when they protested and raised questions over the treatment, the doctors left the hospital premises.

Police reached the scene following the protest. The family said they would not take the deceased’s body from the hospital until action was taken against the staff responsible.
