The death toll from a stampede at a TikToker's mehndi event in Sialkot rose to two on Sunday, as police arrested six people allegedly involved in organising the gathering.
The incident took place on Friday night at Faraz Cricket Ground on Daska Road, where TikToker Muhammad Ansar Jatt, popularly known as “Mr Pattlo”, had arranged a mehndi ceremony and prize-distribution event.
Hundreds of people had gathered at the venue when a stampede broke out as the stadium gates were opened.
Rescue 1122 had initially reported one death and 13 injuries. However, the number of injured was believed to be higher as several people were taken to nearby hospitals by fellow attendees.
Sialkot police said on Sunday that 18 people had been injured. One of them later died at a government hospital, bringing the death toll to two, the district police officer's public relations officer confirmed.
District Police Officer Dost Muhammad said six suspects involved in managing the event had been arrested. Police teams are also conducting raids to arrest the remaining suspects.
The police said Jatt had fled the venue immediately after the stampede and that efforts were under way to trace him.
Police also took into custody 50 motorcycles and a car that had been arranged for a lucky draw at the event.
The DPO said special teams had been formed to arrest the remaining suspects with the help of modern technology, intelligence sources and conventional policing methods.
