Authorities in Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, sealed a madrassa and arrested nine staff members, including teachers, after a 14-year-old student was allegedly tortured to death.

The incident took place in the Chaliyar area of Khwazakhela.

According to police, the victim, identified as Farhan, was severely beaten by madrassa staff after being absent from class. He later succumbed to his injuries.

The tragedy sparked outrage in the community, prompting Farhan’s family and local residents to stage a protest on the main Kalam-Matta road, blocking traffic and demanding immediate justice and the arrest of all those responsible.

In response, Assistant Commissioner Khwazakhela ordered the madrassa sealed. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under Section 302 (murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Child Protection Act.

District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Umar stated that nine individuals linked to the madrassa have been detained so far. The main suspect, also named Muhammad Umar, remains at large, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend him.

The DPO further disclosed that evidence of torture involving other children had also surfaced. Instruments allegedly used for abuse were recovered from the madrassa, and reports suggest the mistreatment had been ongoing for several months.

All remaining students have been safely returned to their families, and the madrassa has been permanently sealed by authorities.
