KARACHI: The Sindh police force plans to create a digital forensics lab in order to enhance criminal investigation, IGP Javed Alam Odho said in an official statement on Tuesday.

Addressing a review meeting held at Central Police Office, IG Odho said that modern crimes cannot be handled by traditional means; therefore, there is an urgent need for scientific, evidence-based investigations based on technological advancements.

The meeting was attended by senior officers, including the additional IGP of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), DIGs of Headquarters, IT, telecom, and transport (T&T), training, and AIGs, among others.

The scope and requirements of the proposed facility were presented before the officials by the project director IT.

According to officials, almost 97% of investigation cases require digital devices like cell phones and computers these days, and in the rest of the world, almost 90% of crime cases are based on digital evidence.
