Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Senator Rana Sanaullah, responding to Leader of the Opposition Allama Raja Nasir Abbas in the Senate, said that under the rules, the authority over a person held in judicial custody rests with the court.
He added that if there is any negligence in the person’s medical treatment, the responsibility lies with the court.
Speaking during the Senate session, Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said that PTI founder Imran Khan is a respected political leader of the country and has not established any factory or business empire in Pakistan. He alleged that Khan was being subjected to mental distress and expressed concern over his health. He also referred to Rana Sanaullah’s remarks about the system having failed and questioned him about the cases against political figures.
Responding to him, Rana Sanaullah said that, according to the rules, a person in judicial custody remains under the authority of the court. He said that information obtained about Imran Khan’s blood pressure did not confirm the concerns raised by the opposition leader.
He also said that doctors nominated by Imran Khan’s family had been included in the medical team.
Rana Sanaullah further said that PTI’s petitions concerning Imran Khan are currently being heard by the courts. Addressing Raja Nasir Abbas, he said that if the opposition leader claimed Rana Sanaullah knew about the matter, then “if I know, you also know.”
Senator Azam Swati, meanwhile, said that Imran Khan is a great person and urged authorities not to put his life at risk. He called for the health-related issues concerning Imran Khan and his wife to be resolved immediately.
He said doctors had submitted a report to the Supreme Court and suggested that Raja Nasir Abbas and Mahmood Khan Achakzai should sit down with the government to discuss the matter.
