The Punjab government has extended the preventive detention of Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, sisters of jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, by another 30 days.
The development came to light during hearing of a petition seeking their release at the Lahore High Court.
Justice Abher Gul Khan heard the case, while the Punjab home secretary and Kot Lakhpat Jail superintendent appeared before the court.
According to a report submitted by the home secretary, the government extended detention of the ex-prime minister's sisters for another 30 days on October 7.
The government’s lawyer told the court that the deputy commissioner had recommended a further extension of their detention, following which the provincial government approved the move.
During the hearing, the court pointed out that the detention notification had been issued by the deputy commissioner, who had not been made a party to the petition.
The judge observed that the court could not pass an order beyond the scope of the petition.
After taking the home secretary’s report into consideration, the court disposed of the petition.
