A newlywed couple's wedding day took an unexpected turn when they had to depart on a motorcycle due to the closure of roads in Lahore, caused by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests.
The protests led to the blockage of major roads, including the Bati Chowk area, causing immense difficulties for commuters. The couple, who had just gotten married, found themselves stranded due to the road closures.
The road closures also affected patients who were trying to reach hospitals. One citizen was seen carrying an oxygen cylinder while walking with a child who was in need of medical attention.
Ambulances carrying dead bodies were also stuck in traffic for hours. Furthermore, hundreds of liters of milk and vegetables were wasted due to the prolonged blockade.
The police arrested several local residents who had gathered at Bati Chowk, and an elderly woman who was walking in the area was provided medical aid by Rescue 1122 personnel after her condition deteriorated.
Yesterday, two wedding processions were also stuck in traffic, but were eventually allowed to pass after prolonged negotiations.
The PTI protests have caused widespread disruptions in Lahore, with many roads closed and commuters facing significant challenges.
