Iran war: Eight USS Lincoln personnel attempted suicide, confirms US Navy

US Navy personnel deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and its strike group, which have been engaged in prolonged military operations against Iranian forces, have experienced severe psychological stress and anxiety.

Eight personnel allegedly attempted suicide during the deployment.

According to US news agency CNN, the revelation was made in a letter by Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao, which stated that eight US Navy personnel had made unsuccessful suicide attempts during the prolonged and continuous maritime deployment.

According to the report, the acting Navy secretary wrote in response to questions from Senator Kirsten Gillibrand that eight suicide attempts had been recorded since the Lincoln Strike Group began its deployment in the Iran war.

Those involved personnel from the aircraft carrier, destroyer ships and aviation squadrons. None of the personnel died as a result of the attempts.

The letter said that amid tensions in the Middle East and military operations against Iran, around 6,000 to 7,000 personnel assigned to the strike group remained on continuous alert and combat duty for more than six months, without breaks or port calls.

The prolonged deployment had a serious impact on their mental and physical well-being.

According to CNN, a US military official described the situation as particularly serious, saying that eight suicide attempts was an exceptionally high and alarming number, as such incidents typically occur only once or twice a year.

The official said the pressure of combat operations was significantly greater than that of normal deployments, as personnel had neither opportunities to rest in port nor relief from remaining on continuous alert.
