Shop owner killed for resisting robbery attempt in Karachi’s Shah Latif Town

An electronics shop owner was killed and another man wounded when armed robbers opened fire during a robbery attempt at the shop in Karachi’s Shah Latif Town on Thursday, police said.

The incident took place in Sector 16-B of Shah Latif Town, within the limits of the Shah Latif police station. According to the police, three armed robbers entered the shop with the intention of committing a robbery. The shop owner resisted and picked up his licensed pistol, following which the suspects opened indiscriminate fire.

The firing left the shop owner and a hairdresser, who was present at the shop, seriously wounded. They were being taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre when the shopkeeper died on the way.

The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Saeed Nawaz, while the injured man was identified as Munir.

Police said Nawaz sustained two bullet wounds, including to his chest and abdomen, while Munir was shot twice in the arm and back. the police reached the scene after receiving information about the shooting and called the crime scene unit to collect evidence.

They said that Nawaz was a resident of Shah Latif Town. Following the incident, residents staged a protest on the main road against Nawaz’s killing during the robbery, disrupting traffic.

With the latest incident, the number of citizens killed in robberies or during resistance to street criminals in Karachi this year has reached 55, according to police figures cited in the report.
