Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit in Egypt on October 13, an event co-hosted by US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, aimed at finalising an agreement to end the war in Gaza.
According to the Foreign Office, the prime minister received invitations from both leaders to participate in the summit, which is being described as the Gaza peace accords signing ceremony.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with other senior ministers, will accompany the premier.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said in a statement that Pakistan’s participation in the summit reflects its “historic, consistent and unwavering support” for the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.
The Sharm El-Sheikh gathering follows diplomatic engagements held by Pakistan and other Muslim countries on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly session last month, which focused on achieving lasting peace in Gaza.
On September 23, Prime Minister Shehbaz, along with leaders from several Arab and Islamic nations including Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Indonesia and Turkiye, attended a meeting on Gaza with President Trump. Following the meeting, these countries welcomed the US president’s efforts toward a ceasefire and issued a joint statement pledging cooperation to establish sustainable peace in the region.
