Pakistan on Thursday urged the media to avoid speculation regarding the timing of the second round of talks between the United States and Iran, saying no schedule has been finalised.
Speaking at a weekly briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andarabi said details of diplomatic engagements could not be shared due to confidentiality concerns. “If we had shared such information, it would have been a breach of trust,” he said.
He added that the key development was the willingness of both sides to engage. “The important thing is that both sides are willing to engage and dialogue continues,” he said, noting that details about delegations were an internal matter for the concerned parties.
His remarks came amid reports that negotiating teams from the US and Iran could return to Islamabad later this week. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said talks could resume within days and indicated a preference for Pakistan as the venue.
The first round of talks, held in Islamabad following a ceasefire announcement, marked the highest-level direct engagement between the two sides in decades. Delegations were led by US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.
The negotiations, which lasted nearly 21 hours, covered key issues including the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s nuclear programme and international sanctions.
Although no agreement was reached, officials described the talks as an important step towards opening direct communication channels. Pakistan is continuing to coordinate with both sides on the timing of the next round.
