CM Afridi leads second day of Lahore street movement

LAHORE: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said preparations for the September 27 long march demanding the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan had been completed as he led the second day of his street movement in Lahore amid a heavy police presence.

Speaking to the media and party supporters, Afridi said PTI would announce its detailed protest strategy a week before the long march and urged people to take to the streets to demand their rights.

He claimed that even the deployment of 100,000 police or security personnel would not be enough to stop what he described as the mobilisation of four million people.

Afridi began his street movement from Shah Jamal after visiting the family of Ghulam Mohiuddin Dewan, a former member of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly who is currently under arrest.

The rally, joined by a large number of PTI workers and supporters, passed through Ferozepur Road, Mozang Chungi, Lytton Road and Jain Mandir before reaching Hall Road.

A heavy police contingent was deployed along the rally’s route. PTI claimed that police forcibly shut shops and markets and blocked roads and streets on both sides, restricting the movement of party workers, supporters and the general public.
