Transgender person Sobia Khan has submitted her nomination papers to run for a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly seat in the upcoming elections.

She belongs to Peshawar and has filed nomination papers from the PK-81 constituency.

Running her campaign as an independent candidate, Sobia expressed her heartfelt desire to ensure enforcement of the rights of the transgender community, women, and children if she secured victory in the elections.

Having submitted her nomination, Sobia is determined to advocate for transgender rights, challenging societal biases that limit their potential contributions.

Her campaign strategy involves extensive door-to-door outreach, aiming for support from both men and women in the constituency.

With a Bachelor's degree, Sobia is the province's first transgender radio jockey.

The general elections are scheduled for February 8 next year nationwide after the Supreme Court lately closed doors to further delays.

In 2018, Maria, the sole transgender candidate from KP, contested as an independent and secured 536 votes, surpassing many women candidates.

Despite hurdles, Maria, also known as Alamgir, hails from Mansehra and played a significant role in the election.
