The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet has approved Rs6.6 billion for the purchase of 30 bulletproof vehicles for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan in September 2027.
The decision was taken during an ECC meeting on Monday, where the committee reviewed a proposal submitted by the Cabinet Division seeking funds for vehicles to facilitate the movement of heads of state and other dignitaries attending the summit.
The Cabinet Division had requested Rs12.6 billion for the vehicles. However, the ECC approved Rs6.6 billion, reducing the requested allocation by nearly 48%.
The committee also directed the Cabinet Division to conduct a detailed assessment of the requirement for any additional vehicles before seeking further funds.
It further instructed the division to submit a fresh proposal if additional vehicles are deemed necessary.
Pakistan is scheduled to host the SCO Summit in September 2027, bringing together leaders and senior representatives from member states.
