Lady doctor shot dead by patient attendant in KP's Kohat

A female doctor was shot dead by unidentified men in Kohat, police said on Monday.

According to the police, lady doctor Mehwish Hasnain was on her way home after performing her duty at the DHQ hospital when unknown assailant(s) opened fire on her vehicle on Double Road in the KDA area. She sustained critical injuries in the attack.

The police rushed to the scene and shifted her to the hospital, but she could not survive. Some unconfirmed reports claimed that she was shot by an attendant of a patient after an altercation at the hospital.

The police have launched a search operation to trace the suspect(s), while security has been tightened at all entry and exit points of the city. District Police Officer (DPO) Kohat, Shehbaz Elahi, visited the crime scene and directed investigators to expedite the probe.

Following the incident, young doctors staged a protest, leading to the suspension of all emergency services in Kohat hospitals.

The protesting doctors warned that hospitals across the province would remain closed until justice is served to Dr Mehwish. They demanded the immediate arrest of the attackers, saying the protest would continue otherwise.

The funeral prayers for Dr Mehwish Hasnain will be offered today at 3 pm at Janazgah No. 3, Swa lakh graveyard in Kohat.
