A court in Kuwait has sentenced a Bangladeshi man to death for the premeditated murder of his friend following a dispute over photographs of the accused’s wife posted on Facebook, the Public Prosecution said.
The Criminal Court issued the verdict on Tuesday after finding the defendant guilty of deliberately killing his friend, who had refused to remove the photographs despite repeated requests.
According to prosecutors, the defendant armed himself with a knife and waited for the victim outside their workplace after confirming he was inside. When the man came out, the defendant attacked him, repeatedly stabbing him in the head and body. The victim later died from his injuries.
During the proceedings, the defendant admitted to the killing and told the court that the two men had been friends before the dispute.
He said the victim had taken photographs of his wife without permission during a previous visit and later shared them on Facebook. The defendant claimed he had asked his friend to delete the images after offensive comments were posted about his wife, but the man refused and subsequently uploaded more photographs.
The defendant told the court that the dispute had escalated tensions between him and his wife and prompted him to plan the attack.
The court convicted him of intentional and premeditated murder and handed down the death sentence.
