Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Karachi Ahmed Nawaz Cheema has issued new directions for cops in the metropolis, a statement issued by the department said on Tuesday.

The traffic police chief announced major steps in his maiden speech after taking charge of his post.

According to new instructions, no traffic officer will be allowed to issue challans to violators from 5pm till Iftar.

DIG Nawaz instructed police officers to ensure uninterrupted traffic so that the Karachiites could easily reach their homes to break their fasts.

He also barred traffic officials from issuing challans to citizens traveling along with their families and directed cops to warn them for violating the traffic rules.

"No officer would be allowed to issue challan without body-warn cameras," the traffic chief noted.

He issued strict directions to take action against one-way violators as they pose a threat to human life.

"If any officer is found misbehaving with citizens, departmental action will be taken against him," DIG Nawaz added.

He also banned the parking of cars, rickshaws and motorcycles on roads to keep the flow of traffic undisrupted.

Cheema has directed all the sections to lift vehicles in the case of double or illegal parking.
