Police in Karachi arrested three members of an Iranian robbers’ gang involved in multiple robberies while impersonating law enforcement officers.

According to DIG East Farrukh Lanjar, Shahrah-e-Faisal police apprehended the suspects during a raid in Gulshan-e-Jamal, while one accomplice managed to escape.

The arrested suspects include Ali Javed and Hussain Muhammad, both Iranian nationals, and Arsalan, a Pakistani citizen. The absconding suspect, identified as Hassan, is also an Iranian national.

DIG Lanjar stated that the gang primarily targeted foreign nationals, especially under the pretence of police checks.

The suspects reportedly arrived in Pakistan from Tehran by boat, landing on the Balochistan coast before travelling to Karachi. They had previously been arrested and jailed in Islamabad for similar crimes.

Police investigations have linked the gang to several high-profile incidents. according to police, in February, they robbed $1,000 from a foreign Englishman in Defence.

In March, they stole Rs 90,000 from a citizen on Rashid Minhas Road. Near Clifton Hyperstar, they robbed $7,500 from three British nationals.

The gang also committed robberies in Sohrab Goth, Safoora Chowrangi, Drigh Road, Tariq Road, and Haideri, stealing millions of rupees from dozens of citizens.

Police said the gang was highly organised and used authentic-looking police uniforms and tactics to deceive victims. Further investigations are underway, and raids are being conducted to arrest the remaining accomplice.
