Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Saturday challenged Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s claim of having a public mandate in Karachi, alleging that dissatisfaction with the PPP was widespread across Sindh.

Hafiz Naeem accused the PPP of manipulating local government elections and using unfair means to maintain its hold on Karachi.

He claimed that the party had ranked third or fourth in terms of seats and votes in the city’s local government polls, while Jamaat-e-Islami had secured the leading position.

The JI chief also alleged that constituency boundaries were altered to benefit the PPP and that electoral rigging helped the party secure seats.

He further accused the PPP of purchasing the support of 32 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members to elect what he called an illegitimate mayor in Karachi.

He also alleged that the PPP had won seven National Assembly seats in the city through rigging.

Challenging Bilawal to provide evidence of his party’s electoral support, Hafiz Naeem called on the PPP chairman to present Form 45 documents to substantiate his claim of having a public mandate in Karachi.
