Trump says Ukraine should elect a new president capable of reaching a deal with Russia

US President Donald Trump on Saturday called for Ukraine to elect a new president, accusing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of repeatedly failing to reach an agreement to end the war with Russia.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said Zelenskyy had missed several opportunities to negotiate a settlement and argued that the conflict could have been prevented had he been president at the time.

“I think it's time for Ukraine to get a new president,” Trump said, claiming the Ukrainian leader had repeatedly chosen not to end the war despite having opportunities to do so.

Trump also criticised Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, particularly oil refineries, warning that such strikes could worsen global fuel shortages.

He said the situation could also affect American farmers and ranchers amid concerns over diesel supplies.
