Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah said the government was considering a proposal to increase the voting age, adding that any decision would be taken through consensus among political stakeholders.

Speaking during Jirga on Geo News, Rana Sanaullah said discussions on the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment were continuing, including matters related to the National Finance Commission (NFC), population control and the construction of new water reservoirs.

He said the government would not proceed with the proposed amendment without broader agreement.

“Whenever a decision is made, it will be made with consensus,” he said while referring to the proposal concerning the voting age.

Rana Sanaullah further said that altering the existing NFC formula was not necessary, adding that defence expenditures could be separated before the distribution of resources under the NFC mechanism.

The prime minister’s aide said consultations on constitutional and financial matters were ongoing and emphasised the need for consensus on key national issues.
