Professor Dr Shazia Bashir itched her name in history after becoming the first woman to be appointed as the acting vice-chancellor (VC) of the Government College University (GCU) in Lahore.

She is the first woman in the university’s 160-year history to have the top position.

The Punjab Governor, Baligh-ur-Rehman, appointed her for a period of four months or till the appointment of a regular Vice-Chancellor.

Prof Bashir has been serving GCU Lahore since 1996 and currently working as the university’s Dean of the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences,

She is also an alumnus of GCU Lahore as Prof Bashir completed her Master’s degree in Physics from the varsity.

She also has a PhD degree from the Technical University. Over 150 research papers of Prof Bashir have been published in reputed international journals.
