ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has launched electronic passport (e-passport) issuance services across the country and at its diplomatic missions abroad, marking a significant step towards modernising the national travel documentation system.

According to an official statement, the initiative was achieved by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports under the leadership of Director General Muhammad Ali Randhawa, in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision and the directives of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

The newly introduced e-passports incorporate advanced security features and are designed to meet international standards for travel documents.

The initiative is expected to enhance passport security, improve identity verification and strengthen safeguards against document fraud.

The nationwide rollout also represents a step towards aligning Pakistan’s passport issuance system with modern international practices, facilitating more secure and reliable travel documentation for Pakistani citizens at home and abroad.
