Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, along with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is scheduled to visit the Cholistan Belt on February 14, 2025, coinciding with the positive outcomes of the Green Pakistan Initiative (GPI) in revitalizing agriculture within the region.

As part of the Green Pakistan Program, the Government of Pakistan and the Pakistan Army will officially launch the Smart Agri Farm and Green Agri Mall in the Kundai area, designed to benefit local farmers, landowners, and the broader community in the underdeveloped Cholistan region.

The Punjab Chief Minister will preside over the formal inauguration of both the Smart Agri Farm and Green Agri Mall, in addition to launching the AR&FC Center in Chapo, which aims to bolster agricultural research and innovation.

During this visit, the Chief Minister will engage with agricultural experts, scientists, farmers, and landowners to discuss contemporary farming practices and sustainable agricultural strategies.

Furthermore, insights and recommendations from economists, agricultural specialists, and local farmers will be taken into account to enhance the efficacy of the Green Pakistan Initiative.

This initiative is anticipated to significantly improve the living standards of Cholistan’s inhabitants, particularly in regions that have historically struggled with transportation and infrastructure issues.

By implementing advanced farming techniques and corporate agricultural models, both the government and military seek to enhance crop yields, ensure food security, and create economic opportunities within the region.

According to the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2023, the agriculture sector accounts for over 22% of the national GDP and employs 37% of the workforce. Nevertheless, despite its agricultural potential, Pakistan continues to experience shortages of vital crops such as wheat, pulses, and oilseeds.

The Green Pakistan Initiative was established to tackle these deficiencies by promoting modern corporate farming practices throughout the country.
