Azerbaijan’s state energy company SOCAR has said that it is prepared to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Pakistan as soon as a formal request is made, Reuters reported.

The company said that a framework agreement signed in 2025 between SOCAR Trading and Pakistan LNG Limited allows Pakistan to purchase LNG shipments directly through a fast-track process.

“SOCAR is ready to provide LNG to Pakistan as soon as PLL submits a corresponding request,” the company said in a comment to the wire service.

It did not confirm whether such a request has already been submitted, nor did it provide details on the timing of any deliveries or the source of the LNG under the agreement.

Pakistan remains heavily dependent on imported gas and is facing pressure from falling domestic production and volatility in global LNG markets, partly linked to supply disruptions caused by the US-Israeli conflict with Iran.

Amid growing concerns over electricity shortages ahead of the summer season, the power division has asked the petroleum division to arrange around 400 million cubic feet per day of LNG for power generation.

Separately, Pakistan is also in advanced discussions with Qatar for the supply of at least four LNG cargoes, which could potentially transit through the Strait of Hormuz in the coming days.
